The update pushes the build to v18362.295 and contains many bug fixes and security updates. Users unable to install the build are missing out on these improvements, while those experiencing reboots after application are in an even worse situation. “Screen goes black, PC shuts down. PC restarts, and goes straight to Desktop. As though it were just restarting normally, were it not for the fact that it doesn’t wait for programmes to close before doing so,” explains one Reddit user (via WindowsLatest) “I don’t have a login or anything, and it doesn’t go to BIOS either. There’s no way to diagnose this as it is completely sudden and without warning. 100% a problem caused by a recent Windows patch.” Several other issues are experiencing the same issue, with the root cause not yet clear. Microsoft is yet to acknowledge the issue in its release note, though it does note that an issue with apps using Visual Basic 6 is causing problems. Currently, it seems only a small number of users are experiencing these issues. When it comes to can’t install error codes, there are a number of reasons, including outdated drivers, user modification of the update service, and more. Engineers usually recommend running the ‘sfc /scannow’ command or using the DISM utility. In time, it’s likely Microsoft will investigate and resolve the restart issue. Until then, users will have to weight up security updates and the risk of system instability.
